Eyes on the Prize!

Proverbs 23:17-18 “Let not your heart envy sinners, but continue in the fear of the Lord all the day. Surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off.”

I am currently taking some time to have a break for a couple of weeks with my family. I am holidaying down at the beach and it’s interesting to observe so many people going about relaxing, shopping, eating and beaching…  The laughter, the sights and sounds all add to the summer experience.

During the summer it’s easy to lose sight of what’s most important and just get caught up in the excitement of new years eve, parties, beach, good food and entertainment. In observing people enjoy their summer holidays, remember to not lose yourself in someone else’s world, thinking that everyone else is having the best time and you have to play their tune in order to have a good time yourself.

The Proverbs writer exhorts us to CONTINUE in the fear of the Lord and not let our hearts envy sinners. The verse implies there is a future and a hope for the person who fears the Lord but for the person who doesn’t fear the Lord the future is bleak, no matter how much fun it looks like they are having.

Whatever you do, don’t take a summer break from God. Continue to build your relationship with him and keep your eyes on His Word. Don’t envy people who have nothing else but the empty and fleeting promises of this world. God has a future and a hope for you and he will keep his promises to you because he loves you. As someone once said, ‘Only one life twill soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last.’ Do what matters and leave the rest to everyone else.

How? The Holy Spirit!

Posted in Acts, faith, holy spirit with tags , on December 23, 2009 by Corey Turner #ironprophet

Acts 1:1-2 “In the first book, O Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day when he was taken up, after he had given commands through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen.”

Everything that Jesus did, he did in the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the Son of God, second member of the trinity and yet he still needed to be filled with the Holy Spirit to do what he was called to do by his Father (Matthew 3). Whether Jesus was teaching, healing the sick, casting out demons, prophesying or giving commands to his apostles, he did it all in and through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Who are we to think that we can do otherwise? We need to be filled with the Holy Spirit and doing all that we do in his power. Fruitfulness is directly connected to that which God authors. If we are trying to make things happen in our own strength and doing things outside of God’s will and direction for us, we are going to miss out on the fruitfulness we desire. That which God authors, he is responsible to sustain and that which we author we are responsible to sustain. I know which one I want to be operating in my life.

When the angel Gabriel announced to Mary, mother of Jesus, that she was chosen and highly favoured of the Lord to be the mother of the messiah, Mary asked the angel, “How will this be, since I am only a virgin?” Gabriel responded with, the ‘Holy Spirit’. The Holy Spirit was going to overshadow Mary and conceive in her womb the Son of God (Lk 1). Mary believed in her heart the word from the Lord and it came to pass.

You may ask yourself HOW am I going to see my goals for 2010 become reality? HOW am I going to see my marriage restored? HOW am I going to pay off the debt I have accrued? HOW am I going to do what God has called me to do? The answer is the HOLY SPIRIT! Commit your plans to the Lord, trust in God’s Word and let the Holy Spirit lead you and bring to pass what he has put into your heart.

New Years Resolutions!

Posted in goals with tags , , on December 22, 2009 by Corey Turner #ironprophet

About this time each year many people start to think about what they are going to do differently in the coming year. For me this process begins in October of each year. Generally by October I am already thinking about the coming years events, activities, visions, dreams and goals.

Regardless of when you begin to think about your plans for each new year, NOW is the time to clarify what your goals are and what you are going to pursue in the new year. For me I have set 10 goals for 2010. Here are some of them:

  1. Write 1 book
  2. 12 interstate preaching engagements
  3. Attend 1 mission trip
  4. Run sub 40 minute 10km
  5. 800 church members
  6. 2 wks holiday on Gold Coast

The definition of insanity is doing the same things but expecting different results. For your life to change, how you think and what you do has to change. Your life is not going to be different just because the calendar turns over for another year. You have to assess what’s working and what isn’t and make the necessary changes today. The best time to start is today. Don’t wait until after Christmas or New Years Day, start planning and preparing today for the best year of your life.

2010 is the start of a new decade and is shaping up to be a huge year for me and Activate Church. Lots of significant things will take place and God will move us forward. What about you? Do you have the same expectation for your own life, family and ministry?

Write out 10 goals and stick them up somewhere you can see them each day. Pray over them and commit your plans to God and they will meet with success. If they aren’t the right goals, God will show you how to align them with his plan for you. Don’t just resolve to change, make the change and watch the fruit explode in your life.

Crossing Over!

Posted in attitude, Bible Study, faith with tags on December 21, 2009 by Corey Turner #ironprophet

In Mark 4:35-5:2 there is the story of Jesus calming a storm on the Sea of Galilee as the disciples were trying to get across to the other side to the country of the Gerasenes. In this passage I see several insight that can help you cross over to the other side in 2010. If you like, have a quick read (Mark 4:35-5:2) to orientate yourself with the story and the context.

(4:35) “Let us go over to the other side.” Jesus calls his disciples to the other side and he is still calling you and I to the other side of what he has for us in our lives. The other side can be whatever it is that God is asking you to step out in faith on or obey him in that seems risky or challenging.

(4:36) “Leaving the crowd.” Going to the other side requires you to leave the crowd behind. Mediocrity travels in packs but excellence is found one person at a time. The crowd places peer pressure on you to conform but if you are going to cross over to the other side you must be willing to not conform to the negative peer pressure. Leave the crowd and head for the other side of what God has for you.

(4:37) “A great windstorm arose.” Don’t be surprised if you encounter a storm as you cross over to the other side. Be it a storm of criticism, financial challenges, relational conflict or sickness. Storms aren’t always a bad thing, they could be an indication that you are on the right track. Some scholars think that Satan is the initiator of the storm, trying to stop Jesus heading to the country of the Gerasenes to deliver a man of a stronghold of demons and set the region free of demonic influence. Satan doesn’t want you to get to the other side and he’ll try everything to stop you from getting there.

(4:38) “But Jesus was in the stern, asleep on the cushion.” Jesus isn’t moved by the things we get moved by. He is always in control and at rest. Often what i think is a disaster, Jesus is sleeping through. Jesus is as there in your storm but he’s asleep. Just wake him up in prayer and let him comfort you while the waves rage around you.”

(4:39) “Peace! Be still!” Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Do not be anxious about anything but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.” When you are in a storm be still before Jesus and rest in his peace. When the winds and waves cease there will be a great calm.

(4:40) “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” It’s not as bad as it seems. Assume the posture of faith. Be assured, God is sufficient for the storm you face and never, ever let your storm distract you from getting to the other side. The devil wants to get you afraid by the storm because he knows the only thing that will stop you from getting to the other side is your fear. Fear is the opposite of faith and faith in God will get you through the storm to the other side.

(5:1) “They came to the other side.” Remember the other side is what you are heading towards. There is ministry on the other side. There’s influence and deliverance on the other side. Yes you might have to face the enemy himself on the other side but you would have prepared by the storm you encountered along the way.

The Secret’s Out!

Posted in Christmas, Pop Culture with tags on December 18, 2009 by Corey Turner #ironprophet

Luke 2:15-18 When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them.

Apparently there is a new phenomena sweeping the world over recent years called The SECRET. The Secret is a principle turned into a book and a film by Rhonda Byrne that has sold over 7.5 million copies. The Secret basically centers on the law of attraction = you attract whatever you think about. The Secret is basically a combo of pantheism, hermitic philosophy, theology and transcendentalism. The Secret is being acclaimed as this brand new success philosophy that everyone needs to tap into but the reality is THE TRUE SECRET has been out and available for 2000 years.

The SECRET was born 2000 years ago in a manger in downtown Bethlehem – His name is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the Son of God and every Christmas time we celebrate God’s gift to the world in the person of Jesus Christ. God revealed his secret through angels to ordinary shepherds looking after their sheep and God is still revealing his secret to ordinary people from all walks of life today.

The SECRET is officially out but unfortunately not everyone is aware of it. Too many people spend their life in search for the hidden secret that will bring fulfillment, peace and contentment but the reality is these things will never be found in the vain promises the world offers us. The SECRET is only found in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. When we come to realise who Jesus Christ is, believe in him and repent of our sin, the secret is unlocked to us and we find salvation and fulness of life in Jesus Christ.

This Christmas time we need to get the message out to people that Jesus Christ is the SECRET everyone is desperately searching for even if they reject Him. God is still revealing himself to ordinary people and we are the vessels he delights to use to spread the word that the SECRET’s OUT. Let’s open our mouths and our hearts to people from every walk of life and like the Shepherds, make it known that Jesus Christ is alive.

Testimony of Healing!

Posted in Healing, supernatural, Testimonies with tags on December 17, 2009 by Corey Turner #ironprophet

Last night my father went to emergency casualty with severe stabbing pain in his stomach. After several tests the doctors confirmed that there was a perforation (hole) in his bowel. Because of the danger of gas and fluids to affect his body, they were prepping him for immediate surgery.

My mother and I and others were praying in faith during this time for his healing. After this time of prayer the doctors did some more tests just before surgery and found the hole to be non-existent. As a result they decided not to perform surgery, which is a huge blessing. The pain in the stomach is being treated with heavy medication but surgery has been avoided and for this I praise God for his healing power.

This attack of pain literally came from nowhere. Dad was fine Wednesday morning after breakfast and then by lunch he was keeled over unable to walk because of the severe pain in his body. I believe that the prayer of faith in Jesus Christ has had a dramatic effect on dad’s condition and I thank God for his miraculous intervention in this situation.

Keep praying for my dad (Len Turner) as he still needs to have the pain disappear but let us also continue to praise God for his healing power.

The Way Maker!

Isaiah 43:18-19 “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”

Many years ago I can remember my father coming home from the doctor to share the doctors report on the growth on his tongue. The doctor tested the growth and found it to be cancerous. The doctor said that he would have to cut out a portion of his tongue that would make it difficult for him to speak properly. As my father is a preacher, you can imagine that this wasn’t good news.

After hearing the news, my father went down to the altar of the church he pastored everyday for a week and prayed like a desperate man for God to heal his tongue. After several days of praying, we noticed the growth begin to change and when my father went back to the doctor for a check up, the doctor noticed the visible change, tested it again and found it to be benign where before it was malignant. In a matter of weeks the growth was completely gone and my dad is still preaching today.

The devil tried to shut him up but I worship a God who makes a way where there is no way. When disappointments come our way and circumstances intimidate us, don’t lose faith in our God who makes a way where their is no way. When God desires to make a way on our behalf, he opens his mouth and speaks to the situation. One of the most important things we need when our back is against the wall is a NOW word from God. Never underestimate the power of God’s prophetic word to make a way where their is no way.

When the prophetic word meets a heart of faith, a spiritual conception takes place in our spirits that makes way for God’s promises to be birthed in our reality. A word from God represents God’s intentions for you but your response of faith and obedience makes way for God’s intention to become reality in your life.

What are you facing right now in your life and ministry? Have you lost faith in God and resorted yourself to living without a way through? Seek God for a Word and stand on it in faith, declare it and align your thoughts and actions with it and watch God make a way where there is no way!
