How to Please God!

Not by our Works

It’s clear from the Epistle of Romans that we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. There is nothing we can do to earn Christ’s salvation for ourselves. Salvation is an act of grace that rests in God’s hands. However there is also a response in our hearts towards God that pleases Him.

Hebrews 11:6 says, “Without faith, it’s impossible to please God, for he who comes to God must believe that he exists and he rewards those who seek him.”  God loves us all as we are and nothing we do can make Him love us any less or any more but what pleases the heart of God and provokes within Him a heart of favour toward us is our FAITH in Him.

I think that faith is the forgotten factor in life, leadership and ministry, and yet, it is so critical to our relationship with God and to expanding kingdom fruitfulness in our lives. GOD is drawn to the faith we possess and act upon in our hearts. Faith is a heart thing and God sees not as man sees but in fact looks at the condition of our hearts. What is the condition of your heart in response to what God is calling you to at this time?

Without a life of faith we disappoint the heart of God and don’t bring pleasure to His Name. I don’t want to have faith simply to get something out of God , treating Him like an ATM. I want to draw near to God in faith because he is GOD and that’s enough.

Romans 10:17 “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.”

God’s Word

The Word of God is the one thing that can build your faith strong and point you in the right direction. Often we are looking for ways to increase our faith but the point is many of us aren’t using the mustard seed of faith God has placed into our hands right now. The Epistle of James calls us to demonstrate our faith by our works. We’re not saved by our works but by Jesus blood shed for us on Calvary. Once we are saved and have a growing faith in Jesus, we’re called to measure our faith soberly and action the faith we have in obedience to God’s Word.

First, I know this is old but…

This is a thoughtful blog Corey. I am left with the thought still though of how do I please God. I myself do not wonder how to please the Almighty. I act out my faith in daily living to witness to those around me of the glorious sovereignty of the triune God we worship. But perhaps as a witness to those who would read this you may elaborate on specificities on pleasing God in a practical way. As this olawale adekoya seems to want but is not given any clear steps though to myself it appears clear, still. Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness Matthew 6 for example. The scripture referenced in the blog is seemingly to demonstrate validity. Some other scripture or a link to an online bible resource like Gateway or Blue Letter that may enable those who for whatever reason do not have the Word of God readily available. I think this is an excellent blog message so please do not get me wrong. I do not ridicule I am simply stating that perhaps the lost would read your blog and gain some “Word” from our Lord and thereby come to want to know Him as evidenced by the aforementioned individual.
Though you are the preacher and certainly have more experience than myself so forgive me if you have already considered this and are targetting these same individuals in a way I am not aware.

Good on you for all your blogs and pleased to see you back and refreshed from vacationing with your family:) And thank you for your thought provoking message Sunday on James 😀 very pleased to hear from you!
    See you tonight!
