Theology of Community

Last night we had a great life group meeting, praying, discussing the theology of mission (Upcoming series: Mission Possible July 12 onwards) and eating food.

Theology in Community

I was reminded again of how important it is to make time to get involved in each other’s lives, read Scripture together and develop our theology in community. The New Testament church didn’t process what God was doing in them and through them in isolation. The early church were deeply entrenched in the eastern mindset of communal living (Acts 2:42-47).

Don’t isolate yourself

Don’t follow Jesus in your own strength and don’t try and live the Christian life in isolation of other Christians. Join a life group, turn up to your life group regularly and grow in relationship with Jesus and with others. You, your job, your finances, your spirituality, your health and your family will be better for it. Not that Jesus is your own personal ATM that exists to help you succeed and make your life better but embracing life as Jesus modeled to us has great benefits both in this life and in the life to come.

Training for godliness

Paul said to Timothy in 1 Tim 4:7-8, “Train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.”
