Acts 4 Reflections

3207772259_6885817c06[1]Here are some more observations of the Acts of the Apostles to encourage you today:

V1-4:The Sadducees weren’t happy with Peter and John because they were preaching the gospel and so they arrested them and put them in prison. However, persecution still didn’t stop the harvest from coming in because literally hundreds of new believers were added to the early church as a result of the apostles persecuted ministry. Opposition will come against you as you seek to share your faith but the seeds you’ve sowed in people’s hearts will still bear much fruit, so don’t give up.

V5-12: Peter and John are questioned and provoked to take a stand for their faith in Jesus. Peter, being filled with the Holy Spirit preached the gospel to the high priestly family and all the rulers and elders in Jerusalem, declaring that salvation is found in no-one else, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.

V13-14: What was most evidenced in Peter and John’s ministry was boldness and forthrightness because they had been with Jesus. Even though they were uneducated and common men, Peter and John had the marks of Jesus life all over them and bursting from inside them and they had the fruit of their ministry standing beside them in the form of a healed man. Let your results speak for themselves. You don’t need to prove anything to anybody but you do need to spend time with Jesus. Spending time with Jesus leaves a mark on you and is fundamental to your ongoing growth and development in life and ministry.

V20: Peter and John were compelled to speak about Jesus and be witnesses for him in the earth. Have you got that same compulsion or are you timid in your witness and embarrassed about opening your mouth and giving a reason for the hope that you have? Following Jesus causes us to embrace his mission to preach the gospel to all creation and go and make disciples of all nations.

V24-31: Upon being released from custody, Peter and John returned to their friends in the church and shared what had happened and they had a corporate prayer meeting praying for continued boldness in their ministry. Several key things took place in this meeting. Firstly, they were together in prayer acknowledging God as Sovereign over every affair of man. Secondly, they recognised the opposition against them and prayed for the power to continue with boldness to speak the word of God. Thirdly, their prayers were answered. The place they were praying together in was shaken and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued in the mission Christ had given them. When we stand together in prayer, the same power and boldness will be imparted to us to fulfill what God has called us to.
