New Leadership for the ACC

Sorry to have disconnected for the last few days. I have been suffering for Jesus on the sunny Gold Coast attending the Australian Christian Churches National Conference. This was an important event in the life of the ACC because the national presidency transitioned from Brian Houston from Hillsong Church to Wayne Alcorn from Brisbane City Church.

For those of you not aware, this is a monumental transition because of the excellent leadership of Brian Houston over the past 12 years, moving the ACC to be a significant influence in the landscape of the Australian Church.

It was a transition that seemed to be handled well with over 57% of the vote going towards Wayne Alcorn and then further voting taking place appointing the new members on the National Executive team, which included Donna Crouch (the first woman on the national exec.).

On the last night Brian and Bobbie Houston were honoured for their excellent ministry over the past 12 years and then Wayne and his wife Lynn and the new executive were prayed for and anointed with oil, commissioning them for their new roles of national leadership. The presence of God was tangible and the atmosphere expectant as a new season of the ACC was launching.

Transitioning in leadership requires incredible wisdom. I would consider the following tips when transitioning out of a role and seeking a successor:

  • What is God saying to you about your future?
  • Who is God highlighting to you as your successor?
  • What type of leader does your organisation need presently?
  • Who demonstrates consistency, competency, character and chemistry with the organisation?
  • Make sure your spouse is supportive of your decision.
  • Spending 24hrs in prayer preceding major leadership decisions (Like Jesus).
  • Who will add value to and build upon what accomplishments have gone before?

More daily blogs coming your way now that I’m back in cold Melbourne (there is no place like home).

  1. Would that be the same Brian Houston who wrote “You Need More Money God’s Amazing Financial Plan for your Life”. http://www.amazon.com/Need-More-Money-Brian-Houston/dp/0957733607

One reviewer wrote of this book, “There are so many hermeneutical problems in this book. The author has not seriously studied Scripture, but simply read into it whatever he so desired. There is not one reference to any commentator in the whole book or any other scholarly resource. The author has greatly disrespected Scripture. He has faulty interpretations of the parable of the prodigal son, numerous verses in Proverbs, the rich young ruler, etc.”

Is this the same Brian Houston who claimed to earn some of his money as a property developer in an SMH article “The lord’s profits”, http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/01/28/1043804401241.html, but then denied this in a subsequent interview on “Australian Story” http://www.abc.net.au/austory/content/2005/s1427560.htm.

You like to hang around with these prosperity gospel preachers, Corey? Unblblical pastors who have a troubled association with the truth.

    • Corey Turner Says:

      David,

Why are you so committed to having a crack at me? Haven’t you got anything else better to do? I guess not. I’m honoured that you would give me so much of your thinking time. I haven’t read Brian’s book so I am not able to make an informed comment but from what I have heard from other’s, there were some “hermeneutical problems” with the book. However, I am not going to align myself with speculation until I have read the book myself.

Secondly, most preachers (and human beings) have misinterpreted Scripture at some point because as sincere as we may be, we are all capable of making mistakes, so rather than pointing the finger, concentrate on your own theology because by what I’ve read so far, you’ve got a lot of work to do.

Thirdly, I don’t consider myself a prosperity gospel preacher at all, nor do I like to be lumped into the same category as such because I do not preach a prosperity gospel. If you actually listened to my preaching or read my book, you wouldn’t make comments like you have. What I would say, it is such a privilege to be apart of the same movement as such a great leader and example as Brian Houston. Ps Brian has done more for the extension and advancement of God’s kingdom throughout the earth than most people.

If you had any informed idea about the ACC movement you would know that it is far from a prosperity gospel oriented movement but in fact is absolutely committed to being a servant to the community for the well being of the community and the cause of Christ. Selah!

      Corey
