Our original mandate!

I have been rediscovering my spiritual foundations recently and God has led me to Genesis 1 to remind me of some important truths about God and humanity. Here are some of them:

  • God is a creator: His heart is to create and initiate life-giving things. He is truly AWE-some in his ability to bring into being that which is inconceivable to our finite minds. In the beginning, God created…
  • God creates through language: Language is powerful and is the epi-centre of creativity. When God said, ‘Let there be light’…there was light. All of us underestimate the power of our words to create and curse. I have had my fair share of tongue blunders and i wish i could take some words back but i can’t. What i can do is clean my mouth up and confess words of life over my family, church and world.
  • God creates orderly: Alot of people are very unordered about their lives. This isn’t a reflection of God. God is intentional, structured and ordered. He knows exactly what he’s doing and when he’s doing it. He spent 6 days creating the world and each day built upon the previous day. Paul spoke of corporate worship in 1 Cor 14 and said, “All things should be done decently and in order.”
  • God created us in his image: Just as God is a creator, has the capacity to create through words and built order into his creation, we have been made in his image with the same DNA. We are creative genius’s, masters of language and purposeful beings. If you ever doubted your value as a person, doubt no further. You’ve been made in the image of an ALMIGHTY God.
  • God created us to exercise dominion: Dominion is authority. God shared his authority with us and expects us to steward this earthly realm on his behalf. We have power because of what God has given to us.
  • God created us to be fruitful: We are built for success, not failure. We will fail because we live in a fallen and cursed world as a result of our disobedience to God’s design for us but we were originally created for productivity and success. God intended for us to work the earth and be fruitful in our efforts. When we restore our relationship with the Father through Jesus Christ we connect back to our original mandate for living.
  • God reflected on his creation: God saw that what he created was good. He didn’t beat himself up and say, “I could have done better.” He reflected and acknowledged that what he had created was good. We must reflect on our lives and see that what we are accomplishing in God is good.
