Encounters of a PUB kind!

2512423786_04a0e730ce1Last night i went and heard an old friend play his final gig at a pub in Brunswick. It was an interesting experience as i caught up with some old friends who used to attend the same church i was apart of many moons ago.

As i talked with each of them and heard their experiences over the last few years, i was filled with sadness and disappointment as each of them had walked away from the church for one reason or another.

One person had experienced a bitter divorce and is now living with his new girlfriend. Another person was living the same life i knew him to live 15yrs ago, single, visiting bars and on the fringes of society. Another person extremely talented but unfortunately very distant from God and confused about life.

As i walked out of the pub before midnight yawning (I’m a veteran at this stuff) i was left with a feeling of despair and hopelessness for these once close people who are now so distant. As i drove home the reality of how close we all are to walking away from God hit me again. The road to a disconnected relationship with God begins with taking the first step away from daily intimacy with him and disconnection from the community of faith.

Stay plugged into God and connected to His people. Run to God when you face challenges not away from him. He loves you and wants to help you make sense out of the chaos of life.

Hebrews 10:23-25 says, “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”
