Growth Explosion

I want to challenge you to develop an orientation towards continual growth in your life. One of the easiest temptations to give into is the temptation to stop growing. Just stop reading and stop exposing yourself to new experiences and stop talking to new people and you will stop growing.

Some people think that age brings with it maturity. This is absolute baloney! Some people who have lived for 50 years have spent the last 30 years of their life repeating the same experience over and over again.

In Job 32 there is a young man by the name of Elihu who was listening to the words of the older men around him and reflected his thoughts back to them. He said, “I said, ‘Let days speak, and many years teach wisdom.’ But it is the spirit in man, the breath of the Almighty that makes him understand. It is not the old who are wise, nor the aged who understand what is right.”

Elihu reminds us that age doesn’t count for much if God’s Spirit isn’t involved. One of my mentors reminds me regularly, ‘Knowledge alone doesn’t mean you have wisdom. It’s knowledge + revelation = Wisdom.” I would add to this ‘application’ as well. Knowledge and revelation must be applied for it to manifest Godly wisdom.

As you transition from one year to the next, don’t just hit cruise control and go through the motions of another year. Choose a posture of learning where your heart orientation is to grow in wisdom, experience and rich relationships.
