The only thing that can stop you!

In my devotions this morning i was reading 1 Samuel 16 about David being anointed King. This is one of the most fascinating passages of scripture because it reveals the priority of God’s heart when selecting people for leadership. The whole reason God Chose David to be the next king of Israel is because the previous king (Saul) had developed a debilitating condition of the heart called jealousy, bitterness, insecurity and fear.

In contrast to Saul, David was a man after God’s heart who was chosen because of his soft, pliable, intimate and obedient heart. The only thing that stopped Saul was an unhealthy heart, even though he was tall, talented and called of God. The only thing that started David along his destiny journey was a healthy heart, even though he was the smallest, youngest and least likely candidate for kingship.

When God tapped the prophet Samuel on the shoulder to go and anoint the next king of Israel, it’s interesting to observe that he nearly got it wrong because he did what all of us do at one point or another, he judged according to external appearances saying, “Surely the Lord’s anointed is before him.” God rebukes Samuel and reminds him what God prioritises – the HEART!

What is the condition of your heart today? Because your heart is the epicentre of all human expression. The condition of your heart is revealed through your thoughts, words and actions. The bible says in Proverbs 4:23 to guard your heart for out if flow the springs (issues ) of life. The only thing that can stop God’s plan for your life is your heart. Get alone with God and his word and have a heart check up and watch how God responds to you.
